so this morning I opened my email , note the time , and found this

Cool, according to the website they had 7 items available. I rang to check and to ask if they could "put one aside".

They refused to ( nicely) which is fair enough , but they confirmed they had 7 avail.

So I jumped in the car and drove into town to buy one.

When I got there,( about 3.5 - 4 minutes later)  "sorry we don't have any of those in stock "

me: "wow, you must have sold all 7 in the last few minutes then right?"

pbt:" No, I don't think we've sold any this morning, it's an online special only" , ( the place was relatively empty) "but since you're here can I interest you in another dash cam."

me: "No you *f^$#$#g can't " Your email says it's "instore" and online

pbt: OK, well I'm very sorry sir but we only have them at our dispatch

me: but you said you had seven of them

pbt: well, were sorry

I pulled out my phone and checked , suddenly all stores had absolutely zero stock, I don't recall the stocks for all stores but the certainly were not all zero.

Is this a BS ploy to get people to come into the store?

PBtech are getting worse and worse at this sort of nonsense. Isn't it illegal to advertise something yo know you are going to run out of ?

None of the staff seem to think they even had any.

I'm thinking I'm going to cancel my account with them, they may be the cheapest but they have driven all the smaller operators out of business and now they are using questionable tactics

Satch:

I wouldn't think so...

If you advertise a special offer, but only have limited stock (in other words, you expect you are going to sell out of this stuff), that could be seen as misleading if you do not specify this in your advertising.

See comcom, highlighting mine...

Businesses may also mislead consumers if they advertise a special offer widely but only a few people are able to take it up. A business must clearly state any limitations or qualifications to a special offer, such as if:

  • the offer only applies to cash purchases
  • there are limits on the number of items per customer
  • it applies only to purchases over a minimum value
  • there is limited stock available
  • the offer is only for a limited time.

I've had lots of issues with pbtech over the years but i keep going back :(

Their prices are sometimes good and their range is great and usually mainstream products are in stock (compared to smaller stores).

They are the jetstar of IT retail, perhaps .
