So...  thought Id work on some settings on my home router....straight away broke the network admins #1 rule.

DONT PLAY WITH NETWORK SETTINGS REMOTELY. Because when it goes down (and it will), you're stuffed.

Guess what.... Im stuffed. Angry wife. Angry kids. Angry friends who use my domain for email which is hosted at home.

Even called Voyager, "hey guys, can you remote in and turn off that rule I enabled" "Uh... we cant even get in".

****

I dont know if I want to go home tonight foot-in-mouth

Hammerer:

For emergencies, hide a sealed envelope with the means to restore the last backup of the router configuration.

Likewise for your password manager, in event of death.

Real men don't keep backups. They master the art of router configuration via a precisely timed series of power cycles.
