I've recently bought a 2017 15" MacBook Pro from Trade Me.

These models have a keyboard which can fail easily and require an expensive repair.

If I have the original purchaser's receipt for the computer, which was bought directly from Apple, am I covered by the CGA even if I'm the second owner? It was bought 5 months ago.

I'm debating purchasing AppleCare to extend the warranty so I'm covered if they keyboard breaks, but if I have a 'reasonable period' to claim any possible faults under the CGA I won't bother with AppleCare.

I've been told by Apple that the consumer protection is tied to the serial number of the device. It doesn't matter if you purchased it secondhand. AFAIK, you don't even need the receipt, the serial number just has to have a valid local purchase date. I would think you'd comfortably be able to get that fault repaired by Apple if it happens within the next few years.
