I have no personal link to this story but was shocked to see that after 22 years Hayden Tyrone Poulter has been granted parole.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12060506

Twenty-two years ago Poulter bludgeoned to death a woman who worked as a prostitute on Auckland's Karangahape Rd.

He then wrote a confession letter to the Herald, claiming he would kill again.

A week later, the former demolition worker killed a massage parlour worker, her boss, and attempted to kill another worker.

I am struggling with this on the quick look at it. He viciously planned and murdered 3 people and nearly killed another. If there was ever a case for Life without the possibility of Parole, surely this is it?

He was tried, convicted, and sentenced for crimes committed in 1996/7, under laws applicable at the time.

Those laws have changed (Sentencing Act 2002 etc) so there's really no point crying about what appears to be inadequate sentencing in his case.
