Hi,

I need to do some psychometric tests, I've been told to practice as much as I can. My problem is I've been sent examples to practice, but they haven't given any answers, so when I can't figure it out I can't use the answer to work out the strategy.

1) I need to figure out the bottom right number:

                4        2        9

                6        3       10

               10       5         ?

The answer is one of these: 21 / 12 / 16 / 15 / 11

2) I have 3 boxes with 4 numbers, and need to find the last number in the last box:

             16       5                  12      3                  9       5

              4      17                   5     16                  2       ?

The answer is one of these: 15 / 17 / 10 / 13 / 18

When I find a pattern with these, it is too weak to be correct, I just can't see a real pattern.

For No1, I believe the answer is 12.

My theory:

  •  4 - 2 + 7 =9    (top line)
  •  6 - 3 + 7 = 10 (middle line)
  • so 10 - 5 + 7 = 12 (bottom line)

validated with:

  • 4 + 2 = 6 + 4 = 10 (left column)
  • 2 +1 = 3 + 2 = 5 (middle column)
  • so 9 + 1 = 10 + 2 = 12 (right column)

haven't looked at 2 yet

Longshot for 2), I go with 18

in box 1, (5-4) squared (=1) + 16 = 17

in box 2, (3-5) squared (=4) + 12 = 16

so in box 3, (5-2) squared (=9) +9 = 18
