We went shopping yesterday to refill the fridge and freezer after giving the contents away before we moved south.

I was struck again by the fact that 99% of the fish in the freezer is Hoki. It’s not as if there’s no other kinds of fish.

Why this obsession with Hoki?

if you are after greater variety look in the fresh fish section.
Or, go to one of the Asian markets - they have large varieties in the frozen fish section.

My wife hates fish, so getting frozen rather than fresh causes less complaints!

I just find it so dull to look at a wall of Hoki in the supermarket. It’s so unimaginative!

Most supermarkets barely offer more than three or four alternatives even if you buy fresh. There’s heaps of interesting fish in Australia. I wish someone would import it.

Some in my family buy Tarakihi from here by pooling together and freezing it,  and they find it very good. https://www.eastrock.co.nz/shop
