I have a friend who lives in the UK, but often wants to view content from NZ that can be geo blocked, 

Is there any easy way for the them to deal with this issue?

I use overplay VPN, it costs $10 usd a month.  it lets you choose what country you want to be in.

I use Astrill VPN, it has servers in about 30 different countrys. Works out $33NZ or around about for 3 months
