So as I said in the movie thread, I watched Prometheus, enjoyed it, and then started picking at it once I got home.

For example: First scene in the movie - barren planet, presumably Earth, spaceship drops off a humanoid alien who drinks some goo, dies horribly and disintegrates. His DNA is seen entering the ecosystem and crumbling into bits. Inference is that this act seeded pre-prehistoric Earth with the beginnings of life.

Flash-forward - on the alien planet, the scientists anaylyse samples from the miraculously preserved alien head - OMG, the DNA is an exact match for human! Ummm, no its not, otherwise the aliens wouldn't look like odd giant humans, they would look exactly like humans! Implication is that the alien DNA seen in scene 1 caused life to spring up on Earth, then evolved into humanity, which ended up with exactly the same DNA as the original aliens. I've heard of convergent evolution, but that is ridiculous!

Not true. There are large variations among humans in height, skin colour, musculature, etc. All with human DNA. Plausible!

Whoever wrote that probably does not even like science fiction. The first cartoon panel is a simple fail. The rest follow.

The best explanation I have seen for this is that Human DNA matches a PART of the Engineers DNA. The Engineer DNA also includes DNA for the many other forms of life that evolved on earth (and presumably in other places)

So yes you could say Human DNA matched engineer DNA, but the reverse would only be partially true

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

But that's not what the science-person in the movie said. She said 'exact match' not "human DNA is an exact match for a subset of the alien DNA, and so is chimp, fish, cockroach and giant sequoia"

I figured the difference in appearance was down to them having "How to Supercharge the Human Body: For Dummies" and we on earth were sort of winging it all this time.

You're adopted.

Also, I think I'm glad I didn't bother watching this movie. It sounds like it just would've made me angry.

It's just a movie.

It's not meant to provide the answer to the meaning of life, it's just entertainment.

From the link above:

We think he drinks the black goo to break down his own structure and spread life on Earth through his own DNA, but that doesn’t really explain his surprise while he’s disintegrating (and if the Engineers do have the same DNA as us, it’s hard to say why the Engineers had to be broken down in order to create humanity)

Sacrificial my dear Watson.

Just put it out there that the star maps never sent them to that one planet.
It showed them the star system and they chose that planet as it looked like the most obvious one able to sustain life and it had it's own moon.

I've seen a lot of people say the map sent them to that specific planet so thought i'd share.

I prefer a movie that doesn't spoon feed answers. I love leaving the cinema and being able to work stuff out in my head.
