Shock, horror today. I went to stuff.co.nz this morning only to be confronted by a new home page which now asks me straight up to select a newspaper or region for local news. Going to the news button pops up a menu asking me what I want - national news, world news, etc.

My god why make a web site more complicated to navigate. I liked the old Stuff which had a home page full of news bites broken down into categories, all there on one page. Now I have to think about what page I want.

Stuff you have lost me Yell

It didn't ask me which version to access. But I must admit, I much rather get my daily news from RSS feeds - The NZ Herald has them for all sections.

I have calmed down now - click on the stuff.co.nz logo and you get the news summary page. They really had me going there for a minute or two.

I retract my 'Fairfax ruined Stuff' accusation.Wink

Does the Herald have a single feed covering what would be termed "news headlines"?

By this I mean the main stories across the board - national, international, sport... The old Stuff feed was like this, which was why I liked it - it contained 10-15 top headlines across all categories. I'd prefer not to have 4 feeds subscribed just to get the main news headlines across the board.

Yes, the Herald's RSS feeds are excellent.  They give enough text following the headline so you can assess whether you want to spend the time reading the rest of the story or not.

If you browse directly through the Herald's web site, they just give headlines for all but the lead story in each category so it takes a lot more time to visit each headline link to see if that particular story is of interest or not.

RSS feeds definitely save a lot of time and thanks Mauricio for implementing them so comprehensively on GZ Smile.

I have the individual feeds for each section, because it's easier for me to identify the topic - I have more than 500 feeds on my aggregator...

They don't have a single feed, but they also offer feeds for specific columns, and even for specific companies or events.

Check http://info.nzherald.co.nz/rss/ for all the info.

No, they are separate feeds.  I subscribe to 4:  Business, Money, National News and Technology & Science.

Together with GZ's feeds, there is still plenty of room left in the RSS pane of my browser.

Stuff.co.nz can't make up their mind. In my opinion they ruined [expletive replaced] the formatting by aligning the articles to the left of the page like they have.

I emailed them insisting they add about 10px or so to the left border. That way the sub-content (like the picture & caption combos) aren't displayed in the CENTER OF THE SCREEN.

They actually fixed it the next day and they had a nice border on either side & the site looked tidy & great. But when I went to brag to my mates at work about how I influenced the stuff.co.nz layout they changed it back to retarded again.

*sigh* Undecided

Yeah good comparison there.

Aparently some people think trademe looks like ebay aswell. Whats with all the sites changing all of a sudden? Why can't they actually add stuff when they change everything? Like a PDA friendly version of stuff.co.nz would be absolutely brilliant. RSS feeds with video clips would be wuvly.
