It's a tasteful memorial video, I can't believe it's been a year already!

Consumerism gone mad,

'This is iMac, the whole thing is transparent, you can see into it'

That was the best they could find?

You know Steve Jobs helped make some great products, the best products even, but he worked for a profit driven company that sells premium priced consumer electronics with huge marketing budgets.

Dude didn't cure cancer or stop WW3, he didn't feed the kids in Africa nor worked in a public service.

Maybe I'm an electronics hipster, but since Apple has become mainstream, it all feels a little brain washy.

Bandwagons and all that.

This has to be the really bad clip of the day... An advertising agency in the US goes around dressed up as Steve Jobs - even doing a flash mob in Seattle. The guys behind the counter seems to be thinking "WTF just happened? Are all these folks idiots?"

He was a CEO who made some good choices, and made a lot of people a lot of money by giving the thumbs-up to some interesting new products. His near deification seems awfully overrated.

Is he really directly responsible for much advancement in the tech industry in the last decade?

Yes. Unless you're one of those people who doesn't believe Apple popularised and perfected the portable music player and smartphone.

I don't mean Apple. I don't mean their marketing department. I mean the man himself. Yes, he had to sign off on things, but how much of what they produced was his own ideas?

Jobs was effectively the chief designer of a design driven company. Very few people at that level in hardware and software take any serious interest in design - but to Jobs it was nearly the whole point of the company. This tension created good and bad outcomes for Apple at different points in history.

It was easy for many commentators to predict the iPod would be a flop and similar predictions were later made for iPhone.

It is hard to imagine that potential for failure ever existed now.

Why does a nice memorial to a dead guy have to turn into a pissing match?
