And thought, "why not see if there are any on Zillion?" Bizarre. How does the search engine come to that conclusion? Another Zillion suggestion was this extraordinary contraption:

Chair of Horrors

Umm... no.

Ferrit doesn't have any office chairs, but Amazon has lots. So does Trade Me, but is it just me or are prices very high there? Where does one buy good chairs in Auckland?

Hi Juha,

Last time we went shopping for Office Furniture, it was from these guys:

McGreals Office Furniture Ltd
260 Khyber Pass Rd Newmarket Auckland0-9-307-5290
Facsimile0-9-307-5291
Website:www.mcgreals.co.nz
Email:sales@mcgreals.co.nz

They have a great selection.  There also used to be an excellent showroom called "Hollands" right near Mt Eden prison but they must have changed their name as I can't find them in the White Pages any more.

Over the years we have had a really good run with Office Chairs made by DAMBA.  Go for the type with gas lift, high back and armrests, you won't regret it.

Some of those chairs advertised on Trade Me are very similar to what is on offer at McGreals Office Furniture.  You will find that quality office chairs which have good lumbar support and provide good posture are not cheap but they are a worthwhile investment if you spend a lot of time sitting in them.  After all, what price is your health and well being?

Look after your back by getting a decent chair.  My wife has back problems and once this has happened, it's very difficult if not impossible to fix.

Cheers,
Grant.

Thanks Grant, that's a useful recommendation. Will go and take a look.

Agree about the back thing... although in some ways it's better to have an uncomfortable chair so you don't spend too much time by the desk :)

Oh dude I couldn't disagree more. You only got one back. Once it's borked its borked. And there's no CTRL-Z.

I had huge ammounts of back trauma and even went to the physiotherapist about it. It didn't really do any good. I finally got myself a decent computer chair and ...all pain is gone. I can go back to ruining my posture in comfort. I think I'll call it - the geek curve.

The Hollands store is now Office Direct I think from when I last walked past (no not to the prison).
