I'd like to buy the new David Bowie album. This isn't a discussion on my music tastes, but more on the fact that the only option I have is itunes.
I could buy it from Amazon at half the price of itunes, but Amazon won't let me.

I could get it illegally but I don't want to - I could login to a USA server (via work), create a new amazon account and use purchase a gift voucher and buy it that way (damned convoluted way of doing it).

Anyone know any other options?

so although your OP says "I'm not allowed to buy music in NZ' it turns out what you really mean is that you are allowed to buy the music you want in NZ, but just not from the provider of your choice.

Big freaking deal. Suck it up and use iTunes (or the other options Freitasm presented). Itunes is DRM free.

Come back and QQ when you have a genuine problem - like trying to buy something that is available overseas but genuinely isnt available here.

Probably the big cost difference. eg If you buymusic from a NZ artist off itunes in the US, it's 88cents cheaper than if you buy exactly the same music off the NZ version of itunes http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10867173

Given it is the same electric download, they say we shouldn't be getting charged that much more. It's similar to software companies charging a lot more for digital downloads to NZ and Oz customers.

Hi,
Yeah alright. Point taken - was a bad post - it was more as the last post said - it's twice as much as the US markets. I'll use itunes.

Things like this hack me off in a global market - like a few days ago, I was looking for an particular cutlery set.
NZ: $1200
UK: $260 + $60 shipping.

It's hard to support the local economy when things like that happen.

Look in itunes under the music track and you will see what 'bitrate' means.
Bit rate is the same as compression, and it's only 128kbps compression last time I purchased a track from it. Bit rate is one of the most important things when buying online music, as the sound quality of the music track makes a huge amount of difference. Apples if far higher quality and no DRM either, so I think it is one of the better choice for buying music. I wouldn't buy any music under 192 as the compression is too easy to hear on good quality speakers. Most of apples is 256 these days which is what people should be buying.
