We are currently looking for apartments / houses in Napier and have come across a few that is managed by Quinovic.

Can't remember ever having dealt with a company less interested in making a sale than Quinovic.

We wanted to see the floor plan of an apartment and was straight out told they didn't have drawings. There was no help in giving us the website to the property owners (even after a couple of emails back and forth). We had to do our own digging to find it. The floor plans was on the property owners website and Quinovic should have known where to point us to the drawings.

Then we find another place, and Quinovic tells us that the normal terms are periodic with 21 days notice, 6 months are 12 month fixed term. We ask for a 12 month term and THEN are told that the owners only want a 4 month term (so not the one Quinovic says is the normal one). Which would probably make us have to move out as summer arrives in Napier.

Asking them if they can't help us out with finding an apartment / house that would fit our needs, I get this response:

Quinovic representative:
It’s up to you if you would like to come through us as an agent, but again we work 100% on behalf of the owners and have to take in to consideration their instructions. Our rentals are advertised on Trademe or on our Quinovic website.

Apparently their work for the property owners does not include sales... And is it just my poor understanding of english, or is this person telling me to sod off?

I find most property managers pretty useless - they just tick the boxes and charge the property owners a fortune for their 'services'.

Unfortunately it's becoming increasingly difficult to find a property where you can deal directly with the landlord.

That sounds about right for Quinovic.

Every time I read "Quinovic" and I see their scribbled logo I think it's an birth-control pill. Seriously, it looks like something inspired by a pharma company.

That already tells me a lot about the company...'

Ask RedJungle via PM here or on Twitter about properties in Napier, he might be able to help.

Quinovic work for the property owner, not you. I dealt with them once, they were just awful, before, during, and after the tenancy. Suggest you avoid any property let through them unless you really really like the property.

Yip, this. You are not Quinovic's customer, the landlord is. I have had a few bad experiences with them myself (some time ago).

Quinovic are a franchise. I have heard that the quality of service can vary greatly between different franchise operators.

I've been dealing with one of the Quinovic franchises in Auckland (as a tenant) and they are OK.

Yes, that is a problem in Napier. For whatever reason (their efficiency of renting out properties can't be one of them) they seem to have a lot of the places we have been looking at in Napier.

Wish I could filter out their listings on Trademe.

I don't understand the attitude of Quinovic, given their income is ultimately derived from the rent paid by tenants. We have had similar poor communication from Quinovic in the past, so dealt with the owner (at the request of the owner) to then be warned by Quinovic we were not to speak to the owner without consulting them first.

Then when it came to maintenance we were told it was purely up to the owner - whom Quinovic seemed not to communicate effectively with.

That said though, we were lucky to have a property manager when it came time to terminate the lease and the owner dumped rubbish on the property to sabotage the instpection and with-hold the bond.

Just a side note: I can't shake the feeling of dishonesty in listing a rental that is only available for short term rent without actually writing it on the listing.

There are other apartments in the place we are looking and in a listing for another apartment by Quinovic its stated that it is only available until january, which is fair enough. But the listing in question does not have any such information and the information about the 4 month term is only revealed to us after jumping through hoops (a full check out of us as renters).

With a 4 month term its pretty obvious that once summer comes around we would will be thrown out.

That's sort of besides the point though isn't it? You are, in a sense a customer by extension. In that by working for the owner and wanting what's best for them, they should be treating everyone who views the apartment/house as though they are the customers and offer them the best service possible so as to get the best tenants in the property for their "customer"

I dealt with Quinovic in Wellington, they were nothing short of disgusting to deal with. Weren't interested in answering emails, their phones or messages. Were absolutely painful. We will NEVER rent a property for which they look after.

Sounds like the bad salesmanship of Quinovic might be a blessing in disguise.

I rented an apartment via Quinovic once in Wellington. I was told the contract was 5 months (or whatever), then it would be renewed. When 5 months came around they said sorry the owner has decided to sell - they would have known that, and just not disclosed that. Quite dishonest.

Quinovic are the worst property management company I have ever dealt with. Never rented a property off them, but when we tried it was just too hard.

We were genuinely keen to apply for some in Wellington a few years ago, but just trying to even get hold of the property manager was hard, and they seemed totally disinterested in giving us any information about properties.

I know someone who used to work for them as a property manager and she says it's basically slavery. They end up working 8 days a week and one agent is often managing 250 properties at one time. I imagine they (Quinovic) make a fortune.
