Hi Folks,
Its that time of the decade where England get to get knocked out of the World Cup by Germany again.   So I thought I would see who people think may actually win.

Out of interest, I have used the Tournament Schedule Poster from the TAB website which is a downloadable PDF to work out who plays who.

Being English - my guess is that if England come top of their group, they will likely play Spain in Quarter Final 3. If they come second in their group, then they will likely play Germany in Semi Final 1 (so they get a bit further).  If this is the case, then tradition holds that they will lose 2 - nil.

So I am thinking the final will be Germany/Spain  (or at a very very remote chance England/Spain), with an not so remote chance Brazil could make the final against Spain.

The two teams that I would think likely of causing an upset are Switzerland and France, there is a possibility that if either of them make the second round that they could get though to the quarter final (I think they would need to beat Argentina).  Also Portugal I think are likely to get through to the quarter finals in which case they could end up playing England or Spain for a place in the finals.

So that's my tuppence worth of opinion which I shall endeavour to change several times between now and the final.

Regards.

Ahh...I would also go for England. But that is a longshot indeed! I am thinking of either Germany Spain final or Brazil Spain myself. I think a top notch final would be Germany Brazil - looking at the players club performances.

But a wild card in my books is Belgium. They have a great bunch of individuals - wondering how they work as a team.

brazil to win. they are good at acting. rolling around. screaming in pain. i haven't seen convincing diving yet though, so maybe other euopeans have a chance. the asians are out of luck coz they work too hard try too hard and follow the rules too much.

Was going to order an England Home shirt, but at ukp90 each, I think it can wait until the next world cup.

This is where I shine. We had a world cup predictor over at the overclockers forums back in 2010. Here is my post..

Dutch:Spain

Half: 0-0
Full: 0-1

I'll have to sit down and see what happens this time. I think i'll be backing one of either Spain/Germany/Brazil.

Hard not to see Brazil winning on their home turf. Uruguay if Suarez fires will be a final 4 contender. Argies have a lethal attack, but could be struggling to keep the goals out at the other end.

Belgium are FULL of star players and have had a golden run the last 2 years, my dark horse for a semi spot.

Spain I think could be coming to the end of their golden generation. Strikers don't have the legs anymore, don't rule em out, but not my favorites.

England, well, depends if Woy has the brains to start the Liverpool players, Sturridge, Sterling, Gerrard and Henderson and build his attack around them with Lallana also. Does he have the guts to drop Rooney who is a massive liability? Can he settle on a solid CB pairing?

Brazil to beat Spain 3-1 in the Final. Neymar player of the tournament, Suarez golden boot and Urugay to beat the Argies in the 3/4 play off. Belgium to have a great run but ultimately fall out on penalties in the QF stage.

...

It wouldn't have got you any dollars from the TAB though, technically the full-time score was 0-0, the Spanish didn't score until well into extra time.

So what are you calling for the Spain - Netherlands game next Saturday morning?

I'm picking a cautious start by both and either a 0-0 or 1-1 draw.

Yeah a draw seems quite likely. Hard to say though. Both teams will want to make a good start considering the pool. Chile are currently ranked higher than the dutch and aussie could cause an upset on the day.
