Last night an 8 year old boy was approached by a man driving a purple car (no other details) and enticed into getting into the car with sweets. The boy declined, went home and the police were called. This took place at the crest of Wadestown hill, by the shops. The child in question was one of several who use the Wellesley School bus service and get off the bus at the stop opposite the Wadestown Kitchen cafe.

Parents of boys on the Wellesley bus have been alerted by the mother of the boy in question, so clearly we will be extra vigilant. But obviously if you're from the Wellington region and see the driver of  a purple car acting suspiciously, please call the police.

This sounds very familiar... I feel like this exact same post was posted within the last few weeks on here or elsewhere (word for word)... Are you getting this from facebook or similar?

No, I talked to the mother of the child concerned last night - she called us. If you can find a similar post I'd like to pass it on to the relevant authorities.

I'd hate to think of there being a child predator in our area, nor would I want to leap to any conclusions about it. But I don't want to stick my head in the sand either; which means taking this seriously I think.

Trying to post a copy of the police report, but getting caught by the bad word filter - bit bizarre. Anyways, turns out the driver of the car was a woman. not a man.

Edit: here

How quickly we jump to conclusions that it was a man.

I don't honestly care if it was a man or a woman, it was fkn creepy. Who the hell offers sweets to kids out of a car window?

Edit: Seems to be no way I can edit the OP to correct it?

Possibly not the best thread for attempts at humour.

I'm sure most of us jumped to the same conclusion - because 99/100 times it would be a man. The possible scenario is distasteful as it stands but hearing that it was a woman seems almost to make it worse. Maybe I'm jumping again here.

Educate your kids. That one was.

When I was about 6 some hippies in a car offered me and my brother cake if we got in.
I knew at that age, you didn't take things and sure didn't get in cars.

When I was 9, waiting outside shop for brother, 2 guys came out and started discussing whether I was "worth it". so of course I zipped into the shop and told the shop owner and she checked to see if they had gone before we left.

On neither occasion did I tell cops or my parents.

You're famous Spud, article about this on page 3 of today's DomPost.

After I was born, I didn't talk to my parents for two years.
