No one has since realised that Facebook logs IP addresses...

Which is available via Settings -> Security -> See where you're logged in

So if anyone ever has a laptop stolen, watch for that.  Dropbox also does it too.

I think that is a feature you need an apple account for, I doubt that would the the case with a 12 year old

No one gonna bring up the fact that a 12 year old has a Facebook when it is clearly restricted to 13 years and up?
Edit: missed @Mark post about it, but still, children under 13 shouldn't have Facebook.

What about the fact that they were able to get on to his Facebook account in the first place?

Sounds like someone didn't listen to computer security 101 (or don't they teach kids how to securely use a computer anymore?).
