I know there has been some conversation before about this subject.

What I want is a fairly definitive list of the most visited sites by Kiwis?

In the past its been said that although sites like Alexa are good they are only as good as the sites that run there code.

So in the past year have you seen such a list flying around the net?

and if it could be broken down to social media and others all the better :)

Not sure about most visited, however Netguide do annual awards for the 'best' site across many different categories.

Looking at the Alexa list, I'm thinking some people's lists might be skewed because some will be visited via tablet/smart phone apps. Or would you group them regardless of how people get to them?

I personally feel that within 5 years the majority of net access will be via mobile devices I mean even my sister back in th euk has an Ipad! So if you are asking would I seperate home based from mobile? no.

an example

The most visited site in the world is google .com
The most visited site in New Zealand is google.co.nz

So if the product I sold is only for the NZ market I would focus on the latter.

This is probably the NZ site I visit most; the majority of my browsed sites would be international.

Stuff, Geekzone, Westpac, Met Service. Yahoo NZ only as I use webmail on my Xtra address

Do users usage vary from BB to Mobile? Mine doesn't, I do what I do, what device it is on depends where I am. Although I imagine social engineering, I mean messaging :-) will be heavily mobile

My wife resisted using an iPad for ages saying she'd never get on with the keypad. I should have let her prejudiced continue, because after I persuaded her to try it, I now seldom get the use of mine. :-(

At the risk of sounding sexist, I don't know if it is male/female thing, but where I am happy to spend serious money on tech, it is typical of my wife that she put up with the world's worst mouse until I treated her to a half decent Logitech black laser mouse. Of course she now loves the fact that it work on any surface, but I suspect she still doesn't use the other mouse buttons. (I have two separate MX Performance mice — one for desktop, and the other in an only occasionally used laptop.)

BTW The above comment is something I wouldn't dare post on PetaPixel because the humourless Americans would descend on me and rip me a new one.

I use to do a bit of teaching computers to adults the diffrence between teaching a woman and a male is chalk and cheese. Now before i get flamed (or whatever the thing is called these days) The people I taught were not how can i put this academics! thats it. So they just wanted to learn how to use a computer. Men would like to surf and go off on tangents . Women wanted usually to learn a specific thing then finish.

This is easily the NZ site I visit the most.

The most visited site for me (and most of the people I know) would be google.com (not google.co.nz). It's my homepage on browser launch (with the /ncr flag that stops redirection to the co.nz version) and, again, I know many people with the same config.

I don't visit many other nz sites.

But can't you easily get an ad provider who will serve up your ads across a wide range of sites, depending on whether a visitor is coming from a NZ ip range?

Misconception, because there isn't an Alexa code for websites. There's an Alexa toolbar for Internet Explorer and yes that is used as one of the signals for the Alexa ranking - with other stuff. But no, Alexa is not a reliable source of rankings.

You could use Quantcast, but again this one DOES require a tracking code, and since not every site is using the same code there is no way to have a reliable ranking.

In other words, don't bother.

Would be inclined to say a lot of females are the opposite - not so much sexist but maybe more just about stubborn people :)
