I have been trying all morning to get into TradeMe but when I visit their URL I just get a blank page. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

I don't use TradeMe often, but it seems that it's often unavailable on the occassions when I do need to use it. Have I just been unlucky or is TradeMe's reliability not up to scratch for such a high profile site?

alasta, just out of interest - are you using a Vodem or Vodafone mobile broadband connection?

That's really wierd. I had a similar problem in accessing Vodafone's web site a couple of months ago due to what appeared to be an out of date DNS record and for days I was unable to access their site unless I manually input an IP address into my browser.

I've just looked up trademe.co.nz's web server on DNS Stuff and it's returned an IP address of 202.21.128.2 but when I put that into my browser I just get the same blank page.

I desperately need to look at the flatting section of TradeMe so I might have to go down to a Cafenet hotspot and hope like hell that I can access it from there.

Edit : Yes, I am using a Vodafone 3G connection here.

I never use trademe now! Had too many dissappointments with losing auctions due to glitches.

Also the "saved searches" just keep annoyingly expiring. I usually buy "grey market" now or parallel imported, much less trouble!

Sounds strange.
You should try http://network-tools.com/ if you've got any problems. Maybe you can use the traceroute tool to see if your own IP address is not able to be reached. Obviously if you're using 3G you might behind a gateway so you'll have a Vodafone address. Anyway thats a weird thing to have a blank page on Trademe??

I only use it to search for flats/flatmates, and browse cars (I haven't actually bought a car through Trademe for a couple of years).

In general I don't spend a lot of money on clothes or electronics so on odd occassions when I do buy these things I can usually afford to buy a new product from a reputable retailer.

Yeah, I even used the view source option when the blank page loaded and it was just some basic structural code with no actual content.

It seems to be okay now but I don't know if briefly accessing it through Cafenet fixed the problem or if it's just come right by its own accord.

I'm unable to access it again this morning, even though it was fine last night.

bloggeeknz - I went to that site and my IP address came up by default in the query field. When I do a traceroute, it times out on the 14th hop. Could this be the source of the problem? Can someone explain to me in plain English what this means and why it's causing me to be blocked from Trademe while all other web sites are fine? Do Trademe do a traceroute on everyone who visits their web site as a security precaution or something?
