I currently have all of my asset insurance with State however after having a car stolen and then recovered I am having all sorts of issues getting the car repaired and the items in the car replaced. My vehicle claims manager isn't to bad but the assessor won't reply to me and he's telling me one thing and the repairer another.

The claims manager for the contents has never been in touch and doesn't reply to my emails even though the claim was lodged on the 16th, a simple yes I have your email and will be in touch ASAP would be nice.

So long story short once this is all sorted I would like to change insurance companies plus I am sure I can get a better price from other providers.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

I'm confused, in one part you say the assessor wont contact you and then in another say he is telling you a different story to the repairer?  But I digress, and we only have one side of the story.

Choosing a new insurer will come down to personal preference in most cases, as I am sure most companies have customers that have had horror stories.  Perhaps start with one of the existing threads, for example:

Just make sure you are comparing apples with apples.

Personally I am with AMI, and despite annual reviews of all our insurance I have yet to find anything elsewhere that would prompt me to change.  More than happy with the process around the couple of claims that we have made.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

I'm with AMI; no issues over 15 years with the odd claim for various things (both car and content). Would recommend (and don't generally do this lightly).

I use a broker (Rothbury) because (a) they will compare a range of providers and (b) they deal with the SH 1 T when something happens....!

I used Rothbury for a specific insurance, professional photographer gear and liability, made a few claims and they were great.

I use State generally, found them helpful for the couple of small claims I've done.

Yes I use them for that, two work vehicle insurances, an annual travel policy and our home and contents. They are first class if you make a claim.

AMI are owned by IAG who own State so you'll probably want to avoid them.

Personally I'm with AA for contents and vehicle and haven't had issues, have made one vehicle claim and had no issues.

Having worked at an insurance broker at the past, unless you're a large organisation, they add little if any value for personal insurance.

Shared ownership doesn't mean they're both bad - their shared ownership status is a relatively recent thing.

That being said I do wonder how much information is shared between the two :-)

You could also check with your bank - most of the big banks do insurance now and may well offer good incentives for bundles of products.

I can't really speak about it but I'm fairly familiar with their back end systems.

They purchased AMI in 2011 so not really recent, Lumley was a recent acquisition by IAG though.

Seems as though they've transferred AMI and Lumley to IAG as of 14th December 15 (http://www.iag.co.nz/News/Documents/IAG1617-5%20IAG%20Triple%20Hop%20FAQ%27s_12-15_Screen.pdf)

But, the OP may want to avoid brands owned by IAG hence my post.
