Pretty good story about an IT manager who found something fun to do with sales calls. Make sure you listen to the audio they made.

I prefer the polite way, I simply say thanks for calling but no thank you. After all just like you and me they are just people trying to pay the mortgage and put food on the table.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Bear in mind that they have used "shady tactics to make it past the receptionist"; it seems that they're not paying any respect so they shouldn't expect it in kind.

Brilliant! I lasted for three minutes. How I respond to cold callers depends on their approach. I try to be polite with the less obnoxious ones, but I regard unsolicited calls as an invasion of my privacy and they usually interrupt something I am working on. Why should I have to put up with that in my own home?

I like it when the HRV people call, which is a lot, and considering what I do to them, I don't know why they keep calling back. But they do.

I engage the salesperson as much as I can, getting them to repeat things they said 4-5 sentences ago, asking questions, basically keeping them on the phone for as long as possible, generally until I start to get bored, and then I say "Oh, it's like our DVS system then!". You can then hear the sound of either frustration or dejection, sometimes both.

The MOTH just swears at them which is no fun at all. For anybody.

Is it mere coincidence that I mention DVS here and then voila! there is an ad for it?! Or are darker forces at play?

i just politely say no thanks, then hang up immediately before they say anything else.

Or at least, that's what I used to do when I had a landline. Now that I only have a mobile I do t get cold callers anymore, ever.. One more benefit of baked broadband.
