Ok this is a real noob question as Ive never used the service before.

But NZ Post set up an address to be able to purchase items from the US? What is it?

Does it mean you can avoid the GST threshold which is, $400? (not that Im trying to but would be handy to know what the cut off is).

This is not a product from Amazon but a refurb product directly from the manufacturer.

Help appreciated.

Cheers.

It's called Youshop and there are a few threads about it here (one of which is huge). The $60* GST threshold still applies.

*$60 worth of GST and duty, which means $400 worth of goods when no duty applies.

Hey thanks, I know I should have googled first and found it but your info has helped some.

What does it mean $60 gst threshold, just means if your item is under $400 NZ? Damn its $409.

As mentioned, YouShop. There's a very long discussion here (about four years old and still going).

You don't avoid GST. You will still pay GST if it's above the NZ$ 60 GST threshold - anything with less than NZ$60 GST to pay won't be charged. This is 15% of NZ$400 (product plus shipping). If it goes over NZ$ 60 then you pay this plus any other customs processing fee.

And of course that NZ$400 threshold includes the shipping fee so allow for that.

What's My Duty is a good resource if you want to get an idea of what you will need to pay as it also knows which items have tariffs, which further impacts what you can purchase before going over the $60 repayment threshold.

I don't use it often as such, but I have used it several times. I found it to be pretty reasonably priced and pretty quick too. That massive thread of YouShop has plenty of people recounting their experiences with the service.

ShipItTo.com will allow you to specify your own value on the item you want to bring in. One imagines being able to knock a few dollars off the item value in order to avoid pesky government tax but I could not possibly comment on such a habit.

This is fraud and if Customs gets you... Big trouble.

Youshop works fine as a non-urgent US reshipper. You still pay standard customs and import fees.

At worst it is a typo and if caught just pay up. No big deal. :)
