Hi all,

I'm thinking of buying an Android TV box from Geekbuying. The cost is around $170, way cheaper than the one sold on TradeMe. So was wondering if I'll be paying any extra customs fee on top of what I paid online? I don't mind paying $20-30 but paying more than $100 is a bit stupid.

Can anyone give any advice on this?

Cheers

EDIT: I tried what's my duty website it doesn't work, can't see any calculator whatsoever

"Goods liable for duty and GST of NZ$60 or more cannot be released until the charges are paid." - http://www.customs.govt.nz/inprivate/sendingitemstonz/privateimportsbypost/Pages/default.aspx

170 x .15 = 25.5

AFAIK there's no duty imposed on electronic goods

So you shouldn't have to pay at the border, by my reckons

Using the word Trademe promts PeterReader (A robot user) to reply with the incredibly useful comment as above. I'm not sure why he exists, other than to confuse new members.

You won't be charged any duty so long as your item (incl. shipping) arrives at our shores with a value of less than NZD$400. But be aware that the value is calculated based on the exchange rate, so may go over if the dollar has moved a lot since the time of purchase, and the time of arrival (you shouldn't have this problem).

Move to New Zealand's best fibre broadband service (affiliate link). Free setup code: R587125ERQ6VE. Note that to use Quic Broadband you must be comfortable with configuring your own router.

Because it's Chinese ;)

I've bought from them before, and they have a reasonable following.  They seem fairly legit.  It can take a while for things to arrive but that's typical for overseas postage.  I had a 'stick PC' die within a fairly short time (a month or two) and they sent a replacement no problems.

The majority of people use aliexpress.com. dx.com was the original Chinese drop shipper. http://www.banggood.com/ is another Chinese drop shipper. A lot of the stuff on trademe is bulk purchased from Alibaba and on-sold on trademe.

Cheers, Matt.
