Caught a few minutes of this last night.

What were they thinking?

Purportedly a news show... that they are trying to make a comedy talk show... with a studio audience to laugh at the terrible jokes.

I guess it's not the same old song and dance, but as George Takei would say "Oh My!"

Its modelled off of the very successful show of the same name in Australia, so I guess thats what they were thinking.  Haven't seen it yet, but I would give them a week or two to settle in.

I was pleasantly surprised, the AM show is definitely heading in the right direction so who knows

Not sure how such a show will deal with serious matters or will it only associate with topical news that is lighthearted

I watched Project until I saw the live audience then switch off.  Quite like AM though..

It's just completely the wrong time slot for that type of show. It belongs at 10:30pm or later.

The 7pm slot is better suited to in-depth coverage of the more important stories of the day.

I don't know where you get that idea. I don't believe it was ever intended to be a current affairs / hard-newsy type show.

I gave up the 7pm horror shows on all networks a few years back. They are universally bad. The last one of any worth was Mark Sainsbury's

Its tagline is "News Delivered Differently".

Would that be the small live audience that was surrounded in mirrored walls to make it look much bigger?

Their automated laugh track was insulting that they ran behind the news "packages".  I ended up recognising the same pattern of laughs with totally different acoustics to the live audience including one boisterous female laugh in a very not funny item of news.  It's NEWS, not a build up to a punchline!

I get their budget is a fraction of the original Australian version and it was their first episode but a laugh track was too much.

Is it not live? You're suggesting a producer is sitting out back and pressing the laugh track button frequently throughout the show??

NB. have not seen show.

It was so bad I actually tuned in to (not necessarily watched) seven sharp.
