If you are planning to make an insure claim, you will need to report it to the police.
Mike
All crime should be reported.

It is worth reporting.
If making an insurance claim it's usually part of the conditions.
Even if not making insurance claim probably nothing the police will do about it, but it gives them a better idea where crimes are happening and they can do patrols etc accordingly.
Edit: It's not to late to report it.

I don't see why.
It's unlikely that anything much will come of reporting it other than it being in the stats and the police being aware of what is happening and where. Still should do it though for the sake of a quick phone call. Why should the thieving scroats get away without their actions even being reported?
Reporting is good because Police can then track trends and even find a pattern that leads to something else...

Exactly what MF said.
Friend had a rock thrown through his car windows years ago, not insured, I dragged him around to the Takapuna cop station to report it. Cops said thanks, was consistent with other reports of some idiots in the area that night, so gave them a better idea of the movements and times etc - doubt they ever got them though.

People need to report all crime, because they use the statistics to show if crime is going up or down. Also this is used for deciding how many police are needed, and the budget police need. Anyone who doesn't report crime, are doing NZers a disservice IMO. Unfortunately too many people seem to be now not reporting crime, maybe because they think police have better things to do, and police resources are stretched? BUt that only means that crime is likely to be worse than the stats show.
Breaking a car window and stealing cash is a crime, and should be reported. End of story, even if the reporting is delayed.
Well before i could report about this scenario, another was inline waiting.
Daytime, Same car, parked in parking lot, smashed same window, did graffiti inside the car, tried to steal (destroyed the keyhole area) .
This time i reported to police. and also said them about the old incident.
They guessing someone could be following the car...
