Did anyone catch that guy on Campbell Live last night who lived on $1000 / year ?

run down :
old-as dude with cornflake encrusted beard and 1983 styled jumpers
lives in the wops of Taranaki
grows / kills most of the food he eats
rides an electric bike around
tries to do his bit for the planet
owns his house freehold (of course)
buys $20 worth of groceries every 2 weeks or so
largest expense is $300 or so worth of rates
spends $12 / month on power...

...which mostly was used to run his gaming console !
he had a massive (42" +?) screen running some nascar clone or something - 'to keep his mind active' .

was immensely impressed .
i wanna be like him when i'm that age, for sure .

Imagine that though? You will be sooo isolated, no internet, no mobile phone, I bet it would be lovely at times but I do not know if I can live like that with isolation from the world.

Wow... didn't know there are still such "native" people in this country.

Life is for living though.  I would rather spend modestly than to spend minimally and live in such a state.

I could definately see me living somewhat like that when I finally retire.  Aside from the fact I'm not grey-bearded yet (but am certainly bearded) I kinda look a bit like him already ;-)

Maybe the PS3 tagline: "This is Living" is relevant to the gaming console? Laughing

The TV and game console were definately a little out of place in the rest of his life - $12 per month for power indicates he doesnt play it as much as I would if that was all i had to do!!
