As the title says.

Probably the best show on TV right now, I sure hope another network picks it up.

That's a shame. It had all the ingredients of a good scifi 90% of the time. Switching focus from earlier main characters turned out to be a bit of a weak point sometimes it could not quite patch but that may be the nature of the source material.

"Though critically acclaimed, “The Expanse’s” on-air ratings have dwindled over its run on Syfy. The cable channel also didn’t have any digital rights to the series, which put a premium on linear ratings, and those just weren’t big enough for Syfy to continue the show."

This is where a service like Lightbox could go big globally with original content......

It would be nice if I could even see Lightbox outside NZ. I've been on Australia 2 weeks out of 4 recently.....and Lightbox just can't be accessed.....

Also hoping it finds a new home.

I've been a fan of the books from way back, and the show has for the most part done them credit. Me having an inkling of the awesomeness that is to come makes this news doubly awful.

Seems to have been a bunch of cancellations this past week.  Probably to make way for new stuff.  I see Brooklyn Nine-Nine got picked up by another network basically 48hrs after it was cancelled, so that gives me hope for things like The Expanse getting an extra life.

Yeah, and it was expensive to produce. It had fallen in the death trap of being known as " The best show no one is watching".

If it is to be picked up Alcon Entertainment ( the owners of the IP ) will probably have to take a big hit and give up full digital rights worldwide to whoever picks it up. Hopefully Netflix will pick it up, I mean if they can green light a sequel to crap like Bright, this has to be a shoe in? Right? Right?

But, if I was a betting man it will go the way of Firefly.

I've just finished season 2 on NZ Netflix and was eagerly awaiting season 3, thinking this would go on for a long, long time.

It is an enjoyable and well-made series with high production values.

If Netflix continues with the likes of Killjoys and other series of this type, surely they should pick up the rights to this one and continue it going - they must have a fair sized viewership around the world for this show, surely?

They need to throw in a couple of sharks and two headed crocks into the show  to up the ratings.

Yeah, my understanding is that it is a popular show, just not with it's "on air" ratings. Not surprising as (not wanting to stereotype but) it is the sort of show probably particularly popular with cord cutters.

Hopefully when Netflix look at the streaming numbers of seasons 1 and 2 they are high enough to warrant them buying it and making it a so called "Netflix Original".

What's the bit about not having the digital rights ?
They sold them too cheaply ?

I bought the first series from uk on Blu-ray following an article saying if you like a series buy it physically too which shows interest and hopefully help series continue. Ie avoid the Firefly experience.

Over the last couple of weeks I tried to buy series 2 buy it was only available as USA import which made me fear bad things.

I really hope it gets picked up by someone else because the production values are so high. No filming in disused factories...

But those high production values are possibly the issue. It's too expensive.

No nudity and gratuitous murdering unlike game of thrones probably doesn't help..

Where can we watch series 3 legally in nz?

"Syfy only had the rights to its first-run live airings. That meant the network did not benefit from digital sales or streaming which can be a sizeable share for sci-fi shows."
