Having decided that I wanted this item, I did what everybody does this days and checked the internet for the best price and the best place to buy it.


Most retailers had it for the same price but the Stationery Warehouse had it for $6 cheaper due to an online promotion.


So, I completed their online order form, checked that my nearest store had plenty of stock and drove down there to collect the paid for item as soon as the store opened.


However, store manager said that while they had plenty of stock of this item they couldn't fulfil my order because they had to 'wait for the paperwork' - my phraseology not his.


While he and his staff were very helpful, they were powerless to challenge their own very inflexible stock system. Again, my term not theirs.


I wanted the item today - that's why I ordered it online today and drove to the store today - and not in a 'couple of days' when the stock control system has decided it was ready.


I wish someone from the Stationery Warehouse could explain to me why your procedures are so inflexible that they can't fulfil a simple order.


In the end, I had to abandon my online order form and purchase the same item again. Thus making a silly situation more insane.
I will now have to re-visit the store next weekend - I can't visit any sooner - with my online form and demand a full refund.


As you can imagine, a waste of my time and of the helpful staff in the store. Has anyone else been experienced such poor customer service?

Online order from most places sucks. They charge me to send it to home, when I pay the same retail price as they sell the for in store. I am not using their store with its high rent, staff, security, shrinkage, mall kickbacks etc and you have to transport it to the store and then unpack and display in the store, so don't try to justify the courier as being something that isn't a cost for in store purchases. Warehouse seem to want to charge for click and collect orders too. Insanity. Sooner Amazon open up and show them how its done the better.

 

I have made it a habit now of only buying online from online only places or else using free shipping discount codes.

 

Then this weekend I ordered 5 desk lamps from the warehouse for $15 each, with free shipping from a choice cheapies code.

 

3 turned up. in 2 parcels. On Wednesday.

 

Tracking from the email I was sent (at least they do that which is more than most) showed that 1 parcel was "delivered" at 11:30 am and the other 2 at 12:30. Nothing on camera at 11:30.

 

Contact form on their site is hopeless, it needs me to fill in my name email and phone number even tho I was logged in, doesn't let me choose an order I have a problem with so I have to try to copy and paste stuff from one tab to another on the phone which is always fun

 

And then when the next day the missing parcel turned up I didn't have a ticket number or anything to even be able to update to tell them that it had arrived, since they hadn't got around to answering my query about where it was.

 

All around pathetic from everyone I have tried online locally. Mighty ape being the exception.

Yes, in England last year. I've ordered product while sitting in a car outside an electrical retailer store that offered online ordered and in-store pickup. The staff didn't bat an eye and I got the discounted price too.

I had the same thing with Smiths City last year. Ordered a game on a great deal online, drove past a few days later and figured it would be fine to pickup but nope, had to wait for their system to do whatever backwards thing it does even though they had the stock instore at the special price. I can’t remember how long it took but I remember thinking it was a bizarre amount of time for something that should be automated.

@richms - Amazon charges for shipping too. AND they précis fix regionally so not sure they are amy better than old school NZ stores even though they seduce us with that impression.

I’ve found Super Cheap Auto’s pick-up service quick and efficient. Don’t they promise pick-ups May be within 30 minutes of ordering?

Doesn't their systems say "delivery 2 - 3 days" and Pick up in store "2 - 3 days"?

 

I am sure I have seen that when ordering from the warehouse, noels etc.

I meant in NZ. It's nice to know it works somewhere. I gave it up as high risk. Anywhere with multiple branches always seems to involve 3-7 staff members and multiple rounds of consultations. Now, if they had a seating area with free coffee and entertainment..

OP did you read the terms when ordering? It quite clearly says "Click & Collect in 1-3 business days"

 

I used to work for them. Click and collect orders aren't filled by the store stock - the stock is sent from the distribution center to the store. They e-mail you when the stock arrives.

 

It's all stated pretty clearly when you order.

Noel Leeming does the same thing. Bought a laptop online at an online only price, went to the store and they had some in stock out back but couldn't give it to me as it was too late in the day and the online orders guys had left....

Before or after they let you know it was ready to pick up?

 

When ordering it does say "We will let you know when your items are ready to be collected."
