I have a friend who has been ill with an uncommon disease for the last 5 years or so. They have mostly worked for Large Telcos and Energy sector.

They are in software although have worked in WAN areas of Telstra etc and also worked with a company laying dark fibre, he used GIS to get approximate quotes for the sakes team which is similar the WAN work, Cisco designer.

But most recently has worked in PM and BA work in software, able to run his own projects and focuses on UX and UI design.

What would you recommend for his resume to be redone professionally and would you advise any certifications, ie Prince 2 foundations and or the BCS BA certifications?

Im sure he will appreciate the advice, Im not sure who to go to for resume help, a good one will help him work around his recent time out of work etc.

I just used my LinkedIn profile as the basis for my CV, then a friend tidied it up for me - worked a treat. Dont see the point of using a "pro" resume "writer".

I read a lot of crappy resumes, and chuck them in the bin. Poor presentation, poor grammar and poor spelling are indicative of a probable poor employee, no matter what the content of the resume. It’s worth considering getting a professional - but i do see pretty poor professionally produced resumes as well!

The most important thing with the resume is the cover letter - a well written cover letter can partially make up for a less than great resume. It’s incredible how many people don’t even write a cover letter.
