Not a rhetorical question.

Linux: Do you mean the commerce comission?

Not necessarily - Monopolies Commission is meant as a generic term.

Why would the Government have duplication of tasks?

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

The government tells us that monopolies are bad and should seriously consider that having (only) one commission sets a very bad example.

Gambling is also bad and I'd like more certainty around the lotto results :-)

If monopolies are generally regarded as undesirable, shouldn’t there be more than one authority ruling on whether monopolies exist?

Didn't know there was a commission with oversight into playing Monopoly. Is there one for each country?

Statutory body not a trading business. What next competing Police Forces? competing Courts?

It’s not quite on the question I asked - but if there is only one authority ruling on monopolies, it has a monopoly on the decision-making as to whether a monopoly exists in any given market. Because monopolies are undesirable, that authority should have no alternative but to rule itself out of existence - and then there would be no way of controlling monopolies.

No there should not be more than one.

As government departments are terrible for having inconsistent rules and regulations. Meaning you get excessive and unnecessary compliance costs. Yet no improvement in outcomes.

Relax. Perhaps I should have put this in the ‘silly joke’ thread then it would have been clear to all that this is TIC.
