MightyApe doesn't have to pay rights, the manufacturer would do that.

No its not, its a cheap knockoff that is about US$9 off aliexpress. Unlicensed, running on a bad version of the old nes and with crap composite out only.

Actually you are right. I thought it was the legit product that they sell, they noticed the price and that it has over 600 games. No way that this is legit. I'm disappointed really that Mighty Ape would offer such a thing. Looking a little bit closer it even has US pins on the plug.

I have noticed lately they’ve started selling a lot more items of questionable quality.

Not really, same trashy 8 bit sort of nintedo compatible hardware, only the HDMI version will have a grotty AV to HDMI converter included in the box. You have to spend quite a bit more to get one with a real HDMI output, and then you are almost at the cost of a used nintendo classic or similar, which comes with a much better controller and upgrade options as well. If you can find the playstation classic cheap its great, and also hackable to put other games on it.

I got the following response from Mighty Ape when questioned about this:

Hi,

Thank you for getting in touch with us.

Although this product is not advertised as a Nintendo item, I've taken a look at the product in question and can see that there is a definite similarity between this product and the 'Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System' official branded Nintendo product which we stocked for a limited time.

We are currently stocking the product in question to provide a product for customers who are after a retro gaming experience, however I appreciate the feedback and I've informed our Games team to look into this product and how it reflects on our integrity.

Thank you for your feedback :)

Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Kind regards,

Philip

Mightyape are good to deal with if you reach out to them.

Good to see that item gone, don't want to see them turning into an AliExpress when it comes to quality of products.
