How many people could there be affected with a Lotto problem?

Interesting... It would be good for Lotto to show an audit of its previous web-based checks.

If a problem is found, I would want my tickets over the last year re-checked.

I was thinking of something like this happening when they first introduced MyLotto. I am wondering how they will handle the issue. So far, they seem to have no comment. So many questions, how many affected? How long was it happening? What is being done to avoid it from happening in the future? I am sure a lot of players just take whatever the website tells them e.g. not a winning ticket and move on.

Sums me up to a tee.
I scan the tickets using the app and if they're not winners, I bin them.
Lately I have been using the app exclusively for online play, so no physical tickets, but yeah...interesting.

What is the link between the Lotto ticket numbers selected and the ticket serial number?
Are these linked or encoded in the serial number?

I don't think there is if you are referring to the customer-facing serial number. But I do hope that there is some correlation between them in the backend.

I am guilty of this also. I buy maybe half a dozen tickets per year, when they get to high amounts. Just assumed the app was correct, I don't really pay too much attention to the actual numbers.

I don't believe so... *Many* years ago at Uni we did a case study on Lotto, and at that time they weren't. I think the ticket number is just an index into a huge table of ball selections. So it totally depends on the network being up to sell or check tickets... a big deal in the days before ubiquitous Internet.

I actually emailed Lotto about this is this is what I received:
From initial investigations, we believe this was a display issue to do with caching.
This is due to customers being logged into MyLotto for a long period of time prior to the draw taking place. This caching issue caused the animated draw on MyLotto to display their ticket as non-winning, when in fact it was a winner.
There is no issue with Lotto NZ’s gaming system and we can confirm customers were paid their prizes correctly.
If affected customers log out and back in and follow the instructions below, the animated draw will show the correct outcome for their tickets:
1.Go to the results page on MyLotto
2.There should be a ticket 'stub' which says 'view details' for each ticket you have in that particular draw
3.Click ‘view details’
4.Click on 'watch draw again' at the bottom of the screen.

What is the link between the Lotto ticket numbers selected and the ticket serial number?
Quite likely none. It's possible it could contain a checksum of the ticket information, including the numbers.
