Saw light smoke coming from a boat out past Taputeranga Island and rang the police. No other boats around. Pretty soon it billowed up into thick black smoke and you could see the flames.
Police boat and others eventually arrived. Hope everyone on it is safe.

The first photo is about five minutes after a boat came in from the West. Duh...didn’t think to take a photo before that.

Hopefully not the guy that was asking yesterday whether it's ok to burn Old man pine firewood that produces more smoke than usual :)

[only joking as I hear they are all okay]

Police were hosing it but couldn’t get close enough to actually reach. I know it’s not funny, but the image crossed my mind of a little boy peeing at an inferno. It’s still burning and has drifted quite a bit. The Police Launch is going out there again after they brought in the crew, maybe to tell the other boats to move away.

Well that’s my excitement for today.
