Anyone who uses NZPost to track their packages has notice that their account has automatically logged out way too often.

I remember I could stay logged in for weeks without it automatically logging me out. Now it seems to log me out in hours.

It seems that I am constantly logging in again, but I thought it was because I logged into a different browser rather than a short time out.

It is annoying.

I don’t think it matters if your logging into a different browser or not. Seems to happen way too often now. I got no problem if it logs me out automatically every few weeks but logging me out every few hours or so is annoying.

Anyone on geekzone work at NZPost that could tell them about this issue?

Yeah it's really annoying. It's been like this for ages.

I feel like this has been happening the last few months. I know when they did the whole redesign last year I think it still allowed me to stay logged in for a few weeks.

How long do you mean by ages?

It's been doing it for months at least. I don't recall exactly how long.

I tweeted then about it. They responded

Well, I’m not a fan of this. Your right it’s not like a bank that needs to be constantly logged out.

Anyway you could tweet them and ask them whether they could allow users to disable the logging out automatically as an option? Maybe also link them this geekzone thread as well so they can see how we find this annoying.

It annoys me greatly. Never used to even log you out before.

I guess with the ability to reroute packages it does increase the risk of loss.

Still annoying! Lol

But as long as your device is protected with a passcode/password it should be fine. There was no need for NZPost to implement automatically logging out every few hours or so.

Unfortunately a pointless argument to get into with them, but you could ask "From what exactly?". If someone somehow manages to steal my phone or laptop while it happens to be unlocked, the last thing they're going to do with it is check whether my shipment of 3/8" Boxcar Prawns is due to be delivered today or tomorrow.

If they really think they're protecting nuclear weapons launch codes, have them put the session into read-only mode after x hours. Most people will only want to check where their stuff is, and in read-only mode there's little an attacker can do beyond checking delivery times... which they can do with a tracking number anyway.

I haven't tested it, but if you visit multiple times per day say for tracking you have to log in each time. I might try that tomorrow.

They could put 2FA or force a new login if someone tried to change ATL/redelivery instead. It's a pain.

This is a good idea. Make it so that when logging into account with a new device that it must use 2FA for the first login and when changing redelivery address use 2FA.

Anyone here who uses Twitter could share this geekzone thread to them and rehash some of our annoyances with using NZPost tracking?

When I saw them update the new website I thought they might fix the account logging out issue.

When will they revert the option to keep account logged in until we decide to log out?
