Evening GZ,

I might have to send a package to the USA (California), and I've never sent anything internationally before.

Are there any tips/tricks or certain providers that are better to use over others for getting this done in a cost effective manner?

Size of package would be 20x20x10cm, around 2kg.

NZPost is the standard way to send packages, they have a few options. They're probably the cheapest, though their prices keep going up, otherwise there's couriers like DHL / Fedex who are even more expensive.

Sent a 3kg parcel to the UK 2 days ago and it cost me $ 134 normal post.

Courier was about $160.
Be prepared to to spend some time filling a customs form or grab one from NZ post if thats what you prefer to use.
Used their standard box size.  Grab a box too if you can as it saves you packing and taping it up at the post office.

You would need the recipients email address and phone number too. Estimated values of the good inside the box, itemised.

In the past if I use courier , I need to fill another A4 size paper that was a US requirement.

cheers

Fed Ex if you can arrange it.

It’s a little convoluted in NZ but once you get it into their system, they are by far the best.
