Looks like the return to people on the moon is getting real.

Apparently there will be different colors of spacesuits. Darker ones will be used for colder missions. White if you'll be walking around in the sun.

NASA has been using 70's tech space suits all this time, and had a tough time getting new suits designed and approved. They've spend billions on it. This is incomprehensible to me, given they managed to design and build suits back in the 60's.

Nope, the USD $228.5 million suit contract is with a Texas Company "Axiom" - it was established by Former Nasa Manager Michael  Suffredini  in 2016.

Suffredini was the project manager for the ISS from 2005-2015

Axiom are the company working with Tom Cruise to launch a commercial module to the ISS to be used as a film studio in 2024...

What purpose does sending more people to the moon hope to achieve? Are we building a launching pad for further travel?

If it's just 'because' then surely, the resources being used for this, could be assigned to solving some of the far more urgent and immediate issues we have here on Earth, like ensuring we don't have hungry kids and education levels are higher..

We need to know if ants can be trained to sort tiny screws in space.

Not looked very far into this?

One small step at a time would be a good starting point.  But there are many reasons, including one you hinted at ("launching pad for further travel").  Will leave you to research a few more.

Or perhaps we could start a suggestions list ...

While they're waiting to take over Taiwan the Chinese are planning to be on the moon by 2030 at latest. That's probably reawakened the US interest.
