does anyone know what a rough estimate of getting a bushing replaced in a 1991 nissan? To be honest I dont know what it is or looks like so I dont want to get burned, I take it that its something to do with the suspension?

Also I have a leaky exhaust that needs repairing for my WOF. anyone know what that would cost approx?

Depends on which bushes need replacing. Could be $15 - $50 for bushes, and $50 - $200 for labour. (Very rough estimates). Yes, it is a suspension or steering part.

Leaky exhaust? Depends.

Mild steel exhausts dont last too long, the muffler might be stuffed and need replacing at $90 - $200 including fitting (honestly, shop around on this one!!!), if its a simple rust hole or other wear/damage, often they can be welded up, looking at $40 - $80.

All prices will be cheaper if you can find someone in the know who will do you a good deal!

Shop around and ask around, it can be a hard job finding a decent and honest mechanic.

Exhausts usually fail at ten years on "typical" cars, depends on what you want to spend with the car, if it's something like a thrashed smoky sunny with possibly only a couple of years of reliable motoring left in it, then spend as little as possible, if it's a clubsport or something decent with a good amount iof life left in it, spend the good dosh and upgrade it while you are at it..

I got ripped by a large car company that charged me $950 to fit two simple parts that should have cost $80 and were not even faulty.

Now I have an honest place that charges honestly and does diagnostic work that is actually needed instead of throwing parts at it and hoping.

If you say what part of NZ you are in, someone may be able to tell you who to see in your town.

Thanks for the replies, its a gts skyline, I live in Auckland.

The problem is, the cars engine has been running on 5 cylinders for the last 18 months (bad misfiring problem that has never been able to be fixed) so the engine likely doesn't have much life left in it. plus it also needs two new tyres, which were replaced a year ago, but that is mostly due to the clutch needing replacing because it slips and on our steep driveway the wheels spin out every morning.

Thats why Im trying to make my mind up if I want to cut my loses now and buy something else.

I think you have summed up your best option in the last part of your sentence, It simply looks like a pit to pour money into.

With the current slump in the car market, you should be in a better position to get a better bargain on a replacement.

After the dire problems with my the 5 year old Nissan, my friends 10 year old Nissan and even works 2 year old Nissan, sell it and get something that won't break.

I won't touch another, sr20's supposed to be a good engine but I differ in opinion with the amazingly unsolvable problems 5 years in.
