Exciting game tomorrow night.  Now I have searched far and wide for exactly what is required by the All Whites to qualify?

Is it just a win, or must we also not let them score any away games??  There has been a bit of talk surrounding Bahrain getting more time to score away points and I am wondering what the exact relevance is?

If we score a goal, and keep them scoreless we will win and go to world cup.

If they score a goal, its worth 2. So that would mean we would also need to score twice. Just once wont do. Otherwise it will be 2-1 to Bahrain.

If after 90 minutes and Extra time it is a draw, lets say 2 Goals (all whites) 1 Goal (Bahrain), We go into a penalty shootout.

Then Also for the penalty shootout If bahrain scores a goal it is worth 2 goals (yes even in penalty shootout's)

So basically, They have many more ways of winning. If we keep them scoreless and score ourselves then we are off to south Africa next year :)

At least I think thats how it works, correct me if im wrong somebody?

We have to win. but if it is 0-0 after 90 minutes there will be 30 minutes extra time. if it is still 0-0 it will be a penalty shoot-out.

If it is a scoring draw ie 1-1 at the end of 90 minutes or extra time then Bahrain will go through.
Same if we lose.

You are wrong.  The away goal rule is only used if it is a draw.  If we win, we're through regardless of how many goals are scored.

It seems a bit unfair that we only got 90 minutes over there to score a goal but here Bahrain get 120 if it is nil nil after 90 min.

Opinions are my own and not the views of my employer.

Wow...it is amazing how much confusion the 'away goals' rule causes.

The away goal rule only comes into play if the the combined score of both matches (home & away) results in a draw.

If it is a draw then the team that scored the most 'away goals' wins.

Since the All Whites didnt score any 'away goals' that puts Bahrain in the box seat.

I do agree it is a bit crap that 'away goals' count in extra time.

I see, so therefore it really only comes into play in this game if the score is a draw at 1-1 (or more) then they will go through, cheers for the clarification.  I will be able to watch the game at the cake tin with more excitement than before!!

great game and a nail biting finish. Lucky for us Bahrain seem to have the worst penalty taker ever.
