Anyone else get a call from these guys and their extremely pushy telemarketers?  Despite saying that he'd called a business number which was unlisted and demanding to know where they got it from, the guy had the gall to ask for my email address and mobile number, and when I indicated that the conversation was over, he continued with a "please visit our website" spiel.

Absolutely poor taste.  I sent this email to them as well.

I have a complaint about your telemarketing firm.  I received a phone call at 7:15 PM today (4 January) asking me to visit your site, and the representative refused to listen when I said he had called a business line.  When I then said he had called an unlisted number he said he had obtained it from a publically available database, and continued on with the spiel - despite the fact that I clearly wasn't interested, and would have interrupted him earlier had he shut up for 10 seconds.  And to top it all off, when I clearly indicated I wasn't interested and the conversation was over, he continued with "please visit our website".

This is absolutely appalling behaviour, and I can assure you that I absolutely will not use your services, and will be advising others not to do so as well.

Yeah, that's them. Blasted scum indeed - I've had letters like those they apparently send out before. And at work we received a couple of them too - imagine trying to scam a children's hospital! Appalling.

I got a telephone call today from an Indian accented male. I just did not like the idea of a win free car for joining up and give me your email do you know any loved ones who....and said no.
I nearly wanted to join up at the website to win a free car.

Hmm.. I joined up to bidnz.co.nz. About 20 mins later my account was gone from bidnz with no explanation..

Oh well..

btw.. I cannot find any information on their website about winning the Car... apart from 1 banner up the top saying "Win A New Car". I've already taken 1 company to the ASA regarding incentive advertising which was quite false and I won :-)

Yeah, either same person or organisation.  Very pushy, didn't let you get a word in edgewise?

No reply to my email, incidentally.

I got a call today too, from a man in India. I was very busy at the time, and tempted by the offer of the car as a prize.
I feel incredibly stupid now because I gave him my mobile number and email. How I wish there was an Undo button for doing that!
I then went and registered in BIDNZ. That about completes the summary of the most foolish thing I've done for a long time.
I would welcome opinions on just how serious this mistake was and what are the possible repercussions.

Looks like this is being run from Mt Eden Prison. Quiet possibly using our tax dollars to finance the calls.

Uh, no, Cato. That website merely narrows down an IP to the closest known location. It stands to reason then that the location it picked out was the CallPlus head office, give or take a kilometre or two (which is acceptable variance for geolocation).
