Why does Ticketek charge you $5 to print out your own tickets, surely this should be free?

I notice more and more places are doing this, why charge me when I'm saving you money?

Same thing applies to Venue Pickup.. re: Armageddon.. i paid $8 for the priviledge of pre-purchasing tickets, which i found out on the day i could've brought for the price not including the extra $8 on top.. was very gutted.

Isn't that how they make money?
It's a booking fee and the cheapest way to get a ticket from them.
Or have they already included a booking fee somewhere else?

Booking fees are always added aswell.

I can only assume that they are not wanting to negatively affect their booking agents NZ wide. As if they lost them, that would be a lot of free afvertising lost also. Ie, no billboards etc

Eh, I'd pay eight bucks just to get past the absolutely MASSIVE queue outside the ChCh one. Missed out on meeting Paul McGann and had to go the next day.

I had similar gripe recently buying a family ticket to take kids to movies...

Looked at Hoyts - $38 for 1 Family ticket (1 ticket for 2 adults, 2 children) incurs FOUR booking fees, i.e. 4 x $1 booking fees for ONE ticket. Total cost $42.

Skycity cinemas family ticket is $40, but no booking fee.
We went to Skycity!

Screw you Hoyts!

Difference being it's pretty hard to avoid these fee's by going elsewhere, when Ticketek are the only booking agent selling the tickets ;)

But yeah that other guy was just after some kind of rebellion against TradeMe it would seems.

The $5 includes the ticketek service fee in this case, right? In your example, you're saving $3 by printing the ticket yourself (compared to venue pickup/mail). Do you expect ticketek to sell you the tickets for free?!

For ticketmaster, there's no charge for printing your own, venue pickup or regular mail (but beware GA) but there is also a separate service fee. In this case you really are being ripped off printing your own. You save nothing over venue pickup/mail!

Fair comment, I would assume though that in me printing the ticket out, I save them having to have a staff member on the counter, waiting for people to collect their tickets. Surely ticketmaster are making their money off a % of the sale of every ticket?

Difference here is you can pee before you hop on the plane and save money.

IMHO all service fees should be included in the ticket price.

By having clients buying online Ticketek are saving themselves on staffing and other overheads; they should not be charging. As ticket agent they will be also be paid by the event organiser.

It seems like a bit of a rort. Last time i bought tickets, it was cheaper to buy them in person at the kiosk in the mall - $6 service charge and got the tickets straight away. It's not quite right when you have to pay extra to buy online versus stand in line!
