I use Amazon a lot in the UK to buy stuff.

I've looked, and there doesn't seem to be a specific NZ site.

I can order from the UK for delivery to NZ but that doesn't really make sense - I am looking for a firm based in NZ with local shipping.

Is there an Amazon presence here, or do people have to order from the US?

What do NZ people use for online ordering 'stuff' - is there a general site which covers most types of goods?

Cheers

LGC

As said, not local. Orders arrive very fast though - I ordered a Kindle Sunday, and I see it's in Auckland now, probably delivery tomorrow in Wellington.

I don't use amazon any more for books at least - www.thebookdepository.co.uk does free shipping to NZ and ends up a bit cheaper..

You can also look at www.fishpond.co.nz for local distribution.

NZ books are priced hideously high. Book importers must live in mansions and drive luxury cars and own the best beach houses.

I buy from Amazon US, and even after postage costs are taken into account you can pay up to 25% less than buying from NZ.

Also note Amazon will mainly ship books to New Zealand. Most of the other products will not be sent outside the US, except the Kindle and a few select items.

In terms of costs, a Kindle book costs 1/3 of the paperback in stores here in New Zealand. Get a Kindle, load up and will save space and money.

Amazon (and their associated sellers) will ship many items to NZ, including CDs, DVDs, clothing, electronics, health care, confectionery etc.  So Amazon is not just limited to books and Kindles.

I used to have a link to a section on their site which filtered on only items eligible for international shipping, but I lost that link some time ago...

Ive purchased books from Amazon and been told itll take upto 28 days to arrive... 5 days later its here. Pricing is a lot cheaper than what local suppliers are asking as well inc shipping.

I tried to buy a book from Amazon yesterday and was told it couldnt be delivered to New Zealand. That surprised me because Ive had no trouble before now.

I found the book in NZ but Im not paying $37.50 when its under three quid in England. How anyone can defend that sort of price difference is beyond me.

I've also just bought a Kindle and found it to be very good. I can buy the ebook and have it on the device in under a minute in most cases. Best thing about it is the space you save not to mention the cost savings. The only complaint so far is the differnces when looking at amazon.co.uk compared to amazon.com. IMO Amazon.co.uk appears to be the better of the two and has a bigger selection of free books.

I didn't mean to say it was ONLY books and Kindle. I bought CDs and DVDs before. The items with most restrictions though are electronics.

Talking about Amazon, I bought my Kindle last Sunday evening (New Zealand time). It was delivered here at home this morning (Wellington, Friday New Zealand time). If it was Auckland it would've been delivered on Thursday.
