Looks like the forces bent on hindering WikiLeaks' survival might hit a speed bump when hundreds of servers across the globe begin hosting the site xD

Treason or our inalienable right to hold our governments accountable for thier actions in a supposedly democratic society?

Back in the Vietnam war, the guy who leaked the Pentagon Papers did so because he believed it was his patriotic duty as an American. He was accused of treason. The Pentagon Papers proved successive US governments had expanded the war into other countries etc while telling congress and the public something entirely different. Newspapers who published this information were also accused of treason.

Bradley Manning, the guy responsible for the cable leaks and collateral murder video leak is concerned about a similar disconnect.

Frost: leaking the cables is treason...

Is leaking the cables wrong or is it the actions of the Americans in general wrong?

If I commit a crime, and someone finds out by illegal means and alerts the public/authorities, I still should be held accountable, (based on the moral utilitarian principal).

Yes someone should not have stolen the information, but hopefully this will start an attitude change in the American camp which will lead to a future where they create information that they can be proud of.

What the hell are cables! This term seems to have just randomly showed up...

Cables are what connect your equipment.

Documents however.... hold secrets

Here's a page stating what a "cable" is:
http://www.slate.com/id/2276198/

The name, I think, is historical - dating back to when they used morse code. Now it is just like sending an email - except the cable is permanently stored so people don't delete important data in an Outlook clean-up.

So is the guy who leaked Vietnam war information responsible for Ho Chi Minh's crimes by essentially helping him to win the war, knowing that this would make the war unpopular? The main problem with americans is they will happily start a war but don't feel any obligation to people/countries that banked on american support.

Any idiot who mirrors wikileaks can reasonably expect that it could change the balance of power by reducing American support of countries that need it. For some reason nobody is supporting the Iranian people who want democracy and a sensible government, or exposing the government they are stuck with.

Time to find a new industry!

So perhaps Mr Cheney should be sued as well, since it seems he intentionally allowed leaked Valerie Plame's name as a CIA operative, because her husband criticised the White House?

I think that Wiki leeks are doing the would of good for the US people. i note that papers over there are not publishing any of the information. i have also heard that schools are telling students not to look at the site as they may not get jobs when they leave school. i do know that most of what has come to light so far was well known around the white house.

i think that people must know what is happening in there home land in order for them to have a open idea of there leader and the government.

just my 2 cents :)

It isn't treason. Not even close. It's outing the liars and the criminals and the perpetrators of war crimes.

There is a strong argument that whistleblowing of this kind is absolutely morally defensible if not legally defensible.

Americans seem to be all on board for letting their government hold their own soldiers hostage to their lies.

"Don't tell the world what we REALLY did or they will REALLY REALLY hate us! You're putting our lives in DANGER by telling the truth about what we DID!".

I'm not buying that for a second....and anyone who has any time for democratic accountability shouldn't be suckered by that line either.

It's like the killer putting a gun to a new victim's head.....and blaming you if he shoots them because you called a cop.

Wikileaks are freakin' heroes.

The US has long ceased to be a beacon of freedom or democracy......They are, today, closer to Hitler's Germany in the early 1930s.

Just wait until the oil price doubles and their economy crashes in a heap of unpayable debts because millions have lost their jobs.

There will almost certainly be an American - defacto - dictator. All the powers are in place now.....just waiting for the wrong guy with blind support from his minions. A dumb-ass sarah palin and her Tea Party fascists defending freedom by snuffing it out......that sounds about right. If not her then the next idiot.

It's the end of an empire...and we get to watch.

Wow! I like your trailer....

When does the actual movie come out? 2012?

On a serious note, very well put!
