Does anyone know which bank atms can give $5 notes as I have used some that only give $10 notes. Do some atms have a minimum withdrawl limit so if you want to withdrawl only $5 it would it work?

$10's the smallest I've seen. To get $5 I would try an EFTPOS at a gas station.

You won't find $5 in any ATM's.

Mostly National Bank ones do it, sometimes it's good, yesterday when withdrawing $100 I got 10x $10 notes....not too good in some situations

There's a problem in the UK where there's not enough 5quid notes in circulation because no cashpoints dispense them, probably a similar sort of issue here too

I usually specify an amount which must include at least one $10 note - $30, $90, $130, etc.

I have noticed a lot more $10 notes recently. Maybe it is to counter the problem named by Jonb.

I use a couple of ASB machines mostly.

As stated you won't find $5s in ATMs.

ANZ Use to give out $10s, but that is now only select machines around the country. They are clearly stickered 'this ATM dispenses $50 notes' which gives it away that 10s have been removed.

Most have now been converted to 50/20. I tend to get 120 at a time to get some separation, and its luck of the draw in the denominations you get.

Be thankfull this is not Queensland and you can draw out small amounts from shops/gas etc. Come back from there last week a little miffed.

Shops don't promote using eftpos like they do here. Charges to the retailer differ so - Minimum $10-15 purchase amount almost everywhere before being able to use a card. No split bills. And they ask you your account type and press all but the pin number for you.

A lot of retails have a shortage of $10 notes, I tried to get $10 from export meats and he said no, but could do a $20 no worries. The increase in $10's from ATMs would help the retailers.

I was so annoyed once when I got out 180 from a machine and it gave it to me all in $10's.

Normally I use ASB machines so get 120 out so its 2 50s and a 10 but have on occasion had all 20s come out.

$5's from a machine IMO is a waste of space in the machine.

Last time I was in Oz it was $20's and $50's only... and that was 2001!

I was amazed when i moved here to find $10's!

I tend to avoid kiwibank ones as that means they get the fee from ASB that I have to pay. Normally either use an ASB or a westpac/anz one wherever. Plus the times I have used them, they must have a pentium 75 or something driving the interface in them. Loud too.
