I've seen installers of telephone/network cables have special staple guns that shoot curved staples, allowing cables to be secured around skirting boards in homes.

I need one for a friend's place to run cables, but can't figure out the name of the equipment, or a place that hires them out.

(alternatively if you have one, and in Auckland, I'm happy to pay in cash/beer for a days hire)

DSE used to tsell them.
All electrical wholesalers will too. They are only good for data/phone cable, TV Coax is too thick for them (unless you can get bigger staples/guns).

I have one I think.... haven't seen it for a while, will have to have a hunt around.

Weve got a PowerFast Cable Tacker (no.31000) that does our cabling... and no, cant loan sorry, boss would miss it :)

I have a 9mm stapler, which would be dodgy on Cat5. 10mm might be the better option.

These aren't Flat staples. For want of a better description, they're hoop shaped, which leaves a half round loop above the timber. Stables also have a plastic saddle to spread the load and minimise crushing.
