I see there is one going to be opening in my area at some stage soon -  they are advertising for a store manager. Just curious, but what is different about a concept store to a regular Dick Smith store?

I saw the same Job Advertisement a while back and wondered that too. That listing referred to it as a "Large Format store" I think.
I guess that means more like Noel Leeming and Bond and Bond, i.e bigger building?

One is just your average Dick. The other is a really special Dick.

I think the concept is "size does matter"

So it is just a larger Dick. Big deal.

I guess it's like the one in Westfield Riccarton, then?

I think Obraik is onto it...
A largish store (maybe split level) with nice new shop fittings, that slowly, over time, get abused, become a little drab and generally 'meh'.
All new stores from the big chains are great for the first year or so, but after a while they become the standard.

The one in Riccarton has been there since they added the second level to the mall so it's been about 2 years now and still has the new feel to it :)

Having said that, it was kind of redone after the suspended cieling came down in the store during the February quake.  There was a video on YouTube that someone took outside the store and you can see water gushing from the roof so I imagine there was some water damage too.
