Italian authorities have fined Apple 900k euros for selling applecare warranties but not informing customers they were already covered for 2 years under Italian Consumer law . 

Isn't this similar to NZ?  Except, under the NZ CGA you are potentially covered for much longer.  Salespeople constantly try to on sell warranty extensions, but, not once have I been told that I'm covered by the CGA. 

Good on Italy for sticking up for consumer rights.

Don't know. May depend on what you get extra for it. Like if it offers next day on site .vs. take it to the service center.
