Hey all

A group of us final electrical engineering students here at the University of Canterbury are shaving our heads for the shave for a cure foundation. If you can help us out that would be great. We are almost at our target.

Means I wouldn't want to shave my hair. I notice it's all guys that have signed up... Would be interesting to see a girl give it a go, Do you shave it all off?

This is a serious charity fund-raising thing FFS. Lots of people are doing it where I work - I'm not because I'm bald but I'm supporting some of the younger guys who are doing this. It's a very good thing.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Grant01, your comments really are not helpful or relevant. Don't post something vague and unambiguous for your starting comments. Say what you mean first time rather than making people ask what you mean.

And you not being willing to shave your hair off for charity has no bearing on this what-so-ever, so why even comment!?

The numerous times I have seen hair shaved off for charity in the past it has mostly been males, but there has usually been one or two females too. And they may still get that in this event. And it is ALL shaved off.

If you really have no idea about these charity events, then go and research them (before posting worthless comments), or ask constructive questions.

The fact that these guys are great enough to do this for charity (as many, many others around the country are too) is to be applauded. Well done guys and all the best. :)

I previously did SFAC in 2010 - its a great cause, and I donate when I can.

Had I been a little more organised mid-way last year, I would have grown my hair out and participated this year as well. (Photo on my Geekzone page was actually from last year a week or so after shaving)

But good on these guys for getting onto it :) Good luck to them!

My friend and his whole family are looking at doing it this year which is pretty cool.

Thanks for your support. It's amazing to see that $267,000 has been raised already. The indicator on the webpage steadily increases everyday.

This will sound harsh as, but it's actually intended to be productive.

As I see it, with say Relay for life, you have all these really motivated people just walking around a track.
That's a really great resource put to a pretty mundane task.

It also kinda says that the donaters will donate to the sick or poor etc, but only if they're buying something in return, much like shaving your head. So really, the people donating aren?t donating to the cause, they?re paying you to walk around a track or shave your head, and then you?re giving to the cause.

So productivity wise, either get people to donate straight to the cause, and collect the money and drop it off if they?re too lazy to do the whole thing themselves,
Or get them to pay you as per relay for life, head shaving, but do something useful with your time, like rebuild some flood walls or clean off graffiti, or tidy up old peoples gardens etc. Basically do anything with that army of motivated helpful people, rather than using up their time and energy walking around a track.
