We have one of those grey plinths - so do just about every household?

https://www.chorus.co.nz/identifying-our-network

Do they still do anything - if the property / all in the street are fibre already?

We're redoing our drive way and this comes up in our discussion

Those grey plinths are usually for your old copper phone line. But even if you are on fibre, until the copper service in your area is decommissioned, they belong to Chorus and you are not allowed to tamper with them. If you do Chorus can bill you to fix the damage.

If you need it moved, speak to Chorus and they can give you a quote to relocate it. Don't try and move it yourself - as above, you'll be charged for damaging the network.

If there is no one working out of that particular pillar they will often just put a shrink on the cables in it and bury it.
Not to hard for the tech to do, but no idea what chorus would charge.
I've done it in both Chorus and non Chorus fibre areas.
