Can I have two aDSL providers on the same aDSL line? Not both working at the same time,
but with different accounts?

So if one of the providers broke down, the other could fill the gap.

Long story short, No.

The only way I could think that this could happen would be with 1 telstra cable line and 1 pots Telecom/Wholesale line, but even then its not really what you're asking. Telecom wholesale would not let this happen regardless of who the two providers were unfortunatly, and Im no expert on the technical side of it but im not even sure its physically possible?
Anyone feel free to correct me

as above, on the same line No, the dsl port can only be configured for one provider, only way to do it is to get a second line.

Even if you get two lines with ADSL from different providers most likely if one connection goes down the other will as well as they would connect to the same DSLAM.

So that would most likely be just a waste of money.

Thanks, was just a thought, cheaper to get wireless than a 2nd line.

I find most of my problem happen outsite of NZ and not with my local DSLAM.

What problems to you experience that are outside of NZ?

In my experience when there is an outage it is usally a problem at the local exchange

If you want to have a backup connection it would be best to use another medium like you mention wireless

... Unless your with slingshot and the promiscuous radius server has gone and started another affair with the smtp server and well...the modem reports authentication error. Another isp would work fine whenever this happens.

I have had multiple ADSL connections with different ISPs for years, and not once have all of them been down at the same time. It is generally ISP problems which restricts the downtime to one connection.

True thats interesting.

Do you have two phone lines at the same address with different ISP's?

currently 3 phone lines at the same address with 3 separate ISPs. But now our Cabinet has gone in I've decided to reduce down to 2 connections. :)
