From what I've heard from another source it was made quite clear at the meeting that price is a very real issue and people just want their xDSL fixed.

Is that not the case?

Timbo hasn't mentioned on many many occasions price is an issue as he asked people when they signed a petition if they would pay more.

Seriously, the whole community needs to get over themselves and involve a WISP - You have many to choose from.

irony of this..

my parents line that i often speak about here, before the coil was removed off the DSL connection, we looked to go with a WISP local (i wont name and shame them here.) they turned up, were looking to charge an arm and a leg (this was a fair few years ago now).

took note of the fact that we would be a prime place to target to deliver service to the whole Bethells Valley and seemed genuinely excited about it.

in the end, he said he had to go look into a few things, and we never heard back - despite Multiple Attempts to make contact.

the coils were removed a few moths later, and we enjoyed a solid 3.5/0.7 (up from the 64/64) for years on.

with crosstalk, deterioration of copper etc, that line is now 1~1.7/0.7.

looking at RBI maps, RBI would work there now however for the way the connection is used, RBI clearly is not an option. on the bright side, RBI DSL is due to roll out July 2014~june 2015! bringing coverage for VDSL into play.

While its clear, the cap is the limit in that household, that sort of load on RBI wireless would be pretty heavy.. and clearly not an option. if this connection was on a conklin, ild feel very sorry for anyone living near them..

an extreme case, but whats to say Timbo doesnt have someone like this living next to him?

And as I keep posting like a stuck record on here - if people have an issue with RBI wireless caps they need to be taking their concerns to MBIE and the Commerce Commission as it's a regulated offering.

Considering how many times I've replied with this to people on here, and the lack of any response from said people, I can only assume that people aren't seeing this as the bit issue they're making it out to be.

Your assumption is that 30Gb would suffice in modern day usage...

Even for a basic internet family, as soon as speed is not the issue, capacity now automatically ramps up too... Think youtube, Twitch, or even Telecoms new Lightbox offering... No option to set a use limit (unlike youtube where you could dial back if you thought to EVERY time) they promise "best viewing limited only by SPEED and not even user adjustable (RBI VIEWING 1080p TV/Movies... Only once a week or blow the cap in the first week(!)

i absolutely agree, but my point is, depending on how people use the connection, wireless RBI simply wont support it all too well.

sometimes the slower congested lane, is the preferable one.

and this really is the problem, its only going to get worse as demand increases.

even caps aside, how many people solidly streaming 1080P over RBI Wireless would it take to cause issues - this is where buffers are great i suppose.

Twitch is an excellent example, being live, there is minimal amount of buffing, and more of a constant stream... interruptions are going to crop up sooner or later..

NZtimbo: We all know it is the Chorus network causing the congestion, we all know they are shaping their network which looking at some of the New UBA submissions they are not allowed to do. We pay for FS/FS and they deliver less than that. We all know the ComCom minimum service level was set before the 2007 STD document was agreed upon and is so out of date Chorus are just using the clause to their benefit, don't get me wrong, I understand their business position re this but do not agree with it and their actions are not gaining friends.

Chorus is not shaping the network. You pay for FS/FS Connect Rate and a minimum of 32kbps Throughput over a 15 min period, which is being achieved, otherwise Chorus would be in breach of the STD Regulations that were designed in 2006 and are still in effect today.

This is a Conklin, as are several cabinets around the area (I'm sure you can find many posts re the technical limitations of Conklin's). These are scheduled to be upgraded in Outram over the next 9 - 13 months through the Chorus RBI programme. I believe the Exchange is more towards the 9 than 13 month timeframe (although standard disclaimers apply).

Thanks for actually being helpfull and posting a link to the post... yea mmm "endorsed" actually we have endorsed a community team to take this further as a group insted of just me.

The InternetNZ submission from their lawyers clause 1.2...

Clause 1.2 is one lawyer (Michael Wigley') view that artificial dimensioning breaks the UBA rules. This is not a view shared by all.

This dimensioning has always been in effect. If it's illegal why have the Commerce Commission never taken Chorus (and Telecom before this) to task over this dimensioning and told them to remove it?

Lots of the areas around Outram are part of the RBI program (and always have been).

3 new VDSL cabinets get installed in 2015 - ORA/J, ORA/P and ORA/L

No, the vast majority (but certainly not all) RBI ISAMs are deployed typically to increase coverage. They are not typically replacing exchange based ASAMs.
