Momona is kinda interesting, I think their fed off the Henley Exchange that was ADSL2/VDSL upgraded by Telecom some time ago, I thought there was a cabinet in the Momona township but maybe not so they are a long way away from the Henley Exchange so long copper run doesn't compare to having an Exchange in the middle of town.

Yea it would be the way of the future for a township like us to do our own fibre install, can we have all our taxpayer money back and we'll go it alone please...

that link got messed up by geekzone.

that "exchange" as you call it, is actually ORA/K

Green dots are RBI cabinets, Blues are normal Cabinets and Red is the exchange (often with a cabinet layered ontop of it thus looking purple.)

There is a school just across the otherside of the main road i live off... it too has ufb for the school to it, im rather disappointed that that ufb doesnt run down my street too ;)

hio77: this threads too long for me to recall...

so have you considered something like this timbo?

Sounds like a nice idea in theory but I dread to see what kind of nonsense will be created thanks to the resource management act that seems to be more of an endurance test than a reasonable set of regulations.

Really? Would resource consent be necessary? Do you think that a farmer runs off for a resource consent every time he wants to bury a water pipe, or lay an electric fence wire in a trench under a gate? I don't see that this is much different. It may, however, be a good idea to put easements in place.

I decided after hearing so much to today visit Outram.

Was a pretty nice place, drinkable Coffee, some friendly people.

I asked about 10 people of the community about their internet connection and everyone says "it can get a bit slow during peak time however we normally just have dinner around that time" - I managed to test a total of 5 WiFi connections and got an average download speed of 6.2mbit down, 700kbit up, there appears to be a total of 52 access points (including hidden ones) in Outram according to my scans, not including the 8 UniFi access points the local school there has.

It appears that the community is getting on just fine with their "congested" broadband, it is by-far better than some other communities I've visited not on the RBI list and on Conklins. Based on my first-hand experience I honestly think an EUBA upgrade here will just be wasted, there is Vodafone + Spark coverage and I managed to get well over 32kbit sustained over a 15min period.

Was a bit of a shame I couldn't meet Tim while I was there but maybe another time.

@michaelmurfy
You should have messaged me, I would certainly have made the time to meet and consume said coffee...

Interested as to why you didn't do your "First Hand" tests at peak time to experience the congestion we and others on the BUBA service suffer, as can be seen on the graph on Post 1 Page 1 the time it reads like your testing was when we do not suffer congestion so your speed was as I would expect at that time of day.  We simply cannot be compared with people and other communities on conklins as they are a substantially different offering, one that others have said Chorus are now paying the price for.  10 people is roughly 1% of the Outram population so your test results are generally considered below the margin of error, I've posted many graphs showing the congestion and degradation of service so why someone would dismiss our concerns with only 5 tests durring normal service is beyond me.

I do hope you wern't WarDriving to get your tests via open or default password wifi adapters.
